Cemetery Tour in Chadron

If you like the Cemetery Tour that the NPPL Foundation organizes, you might be interested in heading to Chadron during Fur Trade Days July 13-15. There is a local group who started fundraising $20,000 for their Greenwood Cemetery Kiosk in 2008. Their Cemetery Directory was installed in May of this year and the cemetery tour during Fur Trade Days this year is a fundraising activity to continue maintenance on the directory. This is a similar directory to the one we are fundraising for and it would be a good opportunity to visit with others about the steps they have taken to obtain and implement their directory.

1940 Census Release Approaches

The 1940 US Census will go public on Monday, April 2nd at 8 a.m. (our time).

For the web video of the release, set your clock for 7:30 a.m. same morning and go to 1940census.archives.gov.  You will be able to start researching from that site.

2012 Nebraska Genealogy Tours

Join Ruby Coleman, professional genealogist with 45 years experience, on a week long tour to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT.

Tour Dates: Sunday, 14 October 2012 – Sunday, 21 October 2012

Limitations: Minimum of 15 people for tour; Maximum of 20 people for tour. Cancellations must be made before 15 September 2012 to receive a 50% or $50 fee return. Cancellations after 15 September 2012 forfeit all consultation fees.

Consultation Services: $150. Booking on the tour postmarked by 1 August 2012 or tour is full (whichever comes first) receives a $50 coupon on consultation services.

Specifics: Transportation and housing arrangements must be made by the participant. Group rates available at the Plaza Hotel. Tour participants bear all costs of expenses. Booking with the tour provides access to a professional genealogist for consultation services at a discounted rate of $100. Consultation services available throughout the week.

Summer Picnic

The genealogical society picnic will be held:

When: Tuesday, August 16, 2011
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Lincoln County Historical Museum, 2403 N Buffalo Bill AVE

Please bring a covered dish (with food in it) and your table service.

We will have a short meeting to make decisions about the cemetery directory and the food we will have for the canteen at the cemetery tour during the Railfest.

Family History Expo – June 16, 2011

Dear North Platte Genealogical Society and members,

Family History Expos has planned an evening event for North Platte on June 16, 2011. Please assist us in getting the word out to all family History enthusiasts! Let friends, society members and library patrons know about this amazing opportunity to spend the evening learning from leading experts and top genealogy exhibits with essential products and services for genealogists and family history enthusiasts. This year our keynote speaker is Holly T. Hansen. Holly is the President and founder of Family History Expos. She was the editor for the Everton Genealogical Helper for several years as well as the editor of the Handy Book for Genealogists 10th and 11th editions. Family History Expos is the flag-ship of genealogy events, with events being held all around the U.S. and we are excited to have Holly available to share some of her research expertise at the North Platte Expo as well as your opportunity to attend the Expo where you can learn the tech to trace your roots!

Other professionals in attendance are Arlene H. Eakle, Ph.D.; Ruby Coleman; Leland Meitzler; Billy Edgington; and Marlo Schultz. You are in for a real treat with exhibits and classes.

Family History Expos will have a booth with educational and fun stuff for genealogists to purchase. Arlene Eakle will have her full line of research aids available. Family Roots Publishing Company will have a significant bookstore filled with the latest books to assist you with your research. Heritage Collector will be exhibiting and assisting with software to capture your photographs, memories, and many ways to share your stories with family and friends.

Welcome

This site has been inactive for a long time, but we are hoping to change that with the installation of WordPress.

A few details about North Platte Genealogical Society (NPGS):

  • Chartered Feburary 23, 1963, currently has approximately 20 active members.
  • Coverage area for lookups/expertise is Lincoln County Nebraska, county seat is North Platte.
  • Meets eight (8) months of the year for regular meetings and has 1-3 additional meetings or special events (tours, picnics, project work days, Christmas celebration brunch, etc.)
  • Meets January – May and September – November on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Meeting Room at the North Platte Public Library.
  • Annual Dues are $12, collected each January.
  • NPGS does not produce a newsletter.
